Can the New Jersey Nets Survive Without Vince Carter?
The New Jersey Nets made a bold move this past off season. After having shipped out Jason Kidd to Dallas two seasons ago and Richard Jefferson to Milwaukee one season ago, the Nets decided to move off the last component of the team's "big 3" by trading Vince Carter to the Raptors.Carter is one of the bigger names in pro basketball. A consistent All-Star and always one of the league's top 15 scorers, Carter's loss will have interesting implications on this basketball team. The New Jersey Nets without Carter will be a pretty bare bones roster with no big names in the mix, save for Devin Harris. Harris, however, is a star in his own right and seems to improve with each season.Additionally, young center Brook Lopez will look to build on an incredibly impressive rookie campaign, in which he played some extremely efficient basketball on both ends of the court. The Nets will also have Rafer Alston at backup point guard, acquired in the trade for Vince Carter. However, it appears uncertain as to what Alston's role will be, seeing as how Devin Harris should get the lion's share of point guard minutes.Additionally, Yi Jianlian enters the third year of his NBA basketball career and will seek to realize the potential he's failed to achieve thus far. Averaging 8.6 points per game in each of his first two seasons, it's safe to say that he's fallen short of the expectations usually placed upon a lottery draft pick.It looks as if the Nets may be one of the weaker teams in basketball. Time will tell whether this prediction pans out or not.
